Icy Spots Possible this Weekend; Winter Storm Monday

Bounce back warmth will occur this weekend as a warm front pushes into northern Wisconsin ahead of our next low pressure system.

Temperatures could reach 40°F this weekend - though I'll admit upper 30°s are far more likely -across the southern two-thirds of Wisconsin. The warm front will stall in northern Wisconsin Sunday. The main low arrives on Monday morning bringing heavier precipitation rates.

Icy Spots May Develop

Scattered light rain, drizzle, mist, or freezing rain is possible Saturday, Sunday, and right up until the main low pressure system arrives Monday morning. Despite temperatures reaching the upper 30°s, the ground will remain frozen at first. Untreated roads could become icy. By Sunday or Monday this threat should should become less noticeable. I expect ice to be mostly an inconvenience. The main point here is to pay attention to road conditions if you are driving around this weekend.

Main Low Arrives Monday AM

The low pressure system will ride the warm front (now a stationary front) into Wisconsin. This will bring a variety of precipitation types to the state. Accumulating snow is likely in the far north with the heaviest snow amounts just to the north in Minnesota or Upper Michigan. Sleet or freezing rain may occur at a quicker rate Monday morning though location/amts are still subject to change. Mainly rain is expected across southern half of Wisconsin and I think ground temperatures should be warm enough to limit ice development by this point. Monday night a cold front will move through dropping temperatures back below freezing, closer to seasonal averages.

Another storm system will impact the region Wednesday and Thursday. This is likely to bring frozen or freezing precipitation to Wisconsin. It is currently expected to be a low to moderate impact event.
