WEDS PM/Early THU AM - Pretty strong parameters + strong cap inversion in Northeast WI/Upper Michigan. GFS is more optimistic than 84HR NAM on today's 12z but if cells could fire in Wisconsin they would be severe capable. Something to watch
Work has began on the next major update WIWX v.11 "Social Update". Focusing on new post templates, improved experience, more enjoyable/satisfying interactions w/ other members, back end optimization, and a few other things. Very much in the thick of it now. I have the new post template finished and works very good, looks great. I have many years and many layers of old code scattered around page to page that I need to rewrite and consolidate. That's where most of the work will be in the coming days. AT LEAST a couple weeks away from completion.
Update 10.13 pushed out this afternoon was very tiny & cosmetic. Focused on making home page cleaner, more minor changes to come. Home page continues to be a work in progress. I feel top half is good, bottom half is missing something. Thinking about next large project. When I left off in March I was working on user post templates in attempt to further standardize and improve both appearance and code behind logic. Huge project I'm not sure I should jump into right now. Creating simple UI for querying the new historical database might be fun too.
Thank you!!
July Status Update - Blessing in Disguise
Jul 14, 2021
With the storms tonight, as the rain gage swells and anvil crawlers rumble overhead; I felt this was a great moment to provide an update!
Thanks for checking in with all of us Justin. When there’s weather happening, I realize how much I miss the info and unique perspectives you give.  There’s just nothing “out there” in mainstream; I’m left wanting more, and you’re the only one I’ve found to fill that void. So yes, I miss all you put out in the past, even early last year. Obviously life threw you onto a tough road, and it sounds like you haven’t been able to exit yet. I hope that off ramp comes soon, and you can get back to the route that puts you back into sharing the weather with us, in whatever manner you choose.
Keep Pushing,
RGS

Storm Reports. Early aft storms in Wisconsin messed up the environment and spared us widespread severe weather. My hunch going in and reason I kept silent. We've got the heavy rain now. Iowa got the tornadoes.
From the SPC "potential for swaths of damaging wind gusts across southeast Minnesota and northeast Iowa through much of the CENTRAL WISCONSIN by late Wednesday evening.  It appears that this could continue into and across parts of upper and northern lower Michigan overnight."

Supercell fighting inversion with stacked plate appearance just after sunset east of Fountain City/Winona yesterday Jun 17, 2021! Large hail with these cells. Thanks for showing me around Bill Kranski!
Helpful rain in southern Wisconsin last evening!
Rain yesterday was helpful I hope!

Green Bay reported this is the fourth driest start to a year on record. Will this be another year like 1988? Farmers were cutting grass along roadsides for cattle feed. Anybody remember that one?

SPC has placed SW Wisconsin, NE Iowa in SLGHT risk for Thursday evening storms.
My new office. It'll be awhile before the computer is ready to go. I can update content from my laptop or phone but it takes the big computer for development. I'm actually happy for this because I hadn't been using it a productive manner. Crazy that it's June already and I haven't chased a storm yet this year! All things will come in time.

Thanks! I miss it and will keep trying!

Hoping your move to a new base is a home run!  Best of luck to you Justin.  I’m selfishly wishing your new start leads to more Wisconsinwx.com content!
All the best to you JP!

Will be watching tonight. "Sufficient elevated CAPE above the cold/stable surface-layer will pose a risk of hail in the strongest cells throughout the period." If lightning is present I will be inclined to pursue 😃
Hey all. Mping data will be removed in the near future. Unfortunately not in a position to pay for it. I thought it was cool so perhaps we can bring it back later. Other than that, not much to share. Rebuilding my life. Starting over. Looking to start a new career while keeping meteorology a hobby. I will be chasing like I always have and may post more as opportunities arise Otherwise expect things to carry on as they have. Take care. Thanks!
Sweet sunset tonight
Rain expected tonight into Sun AM.
High based shelf cloud this AM
Tomorrow night per the SPC - "As upper forcing increases with the approach of the shortwave trough in tandem with low level frontal forcing, thunderstorms are expected to develop by late afternoon from north-central MN into eastern SD. Low level flow below 700 mb will remain rather weak, and while an isolated supercell is possible, convection will likely develop into clusters or line segments along the cold front. Locally strong gusts and hail will be the main concern with this activity as it shifts east/southeast into western WI/northern IA during the evening."
Beautiful Easter Sunday. Temps into the 70s. 👍
70F in the backyard today!
Early half of the week will bring rain showers. A larger storm system arrives later in the week
Temperatures will run well above average this weekend into next week. Perhaps a 70 high in there
Pretty windy yesterday. Many with gusts over 40MPH
The weather has been active but I'm still waiting for a significant system for which we've had a long drought. Will probably remain quiet till something catches my eye. 2021 will be the first storm chase season that I won't post frequent predictions or updates. I'm using SPC outlooks to cover that and this site will serve mostly an observational purpose. YouTube will be used when the opportunity arises. Altogether, I'm curious to see if this will make my chase adventures more enjoyable? Less stressing about whether storms are following the predictions or not.
DEV UPDATE - Developing new post templates for dynamic display across the site. So far they look very similar to other social media sites because hey, it works. I'm doing my best to tailor it to our own unique uses. This project started with simply wanting a cleaner way to LIKE/COMMENT/SHARE but turning into a large clean up & standardization project making the code-behind easier to work with in the future. It doesn't need to be FB 2.0 but it should be functional enough to have effective interactions.
At HVO for a field course in January 2011. Can't wait to get back there one day.
