MAY 8, 2019 | Heavy Rain Tonight; T-storms South; Heavy Snow North

LAST UPDATE : MAY 8, 2019

2:30PM - Good afternoon! Widespread rain is falling over western Wisconsin this hour. It's lighter/scattered in the east. For many places 1-2" of rainfall is expected by early Thursday AM. I took a closer look at the t-storm potential tonight. I wanted to highlight far southern Wisconsin for the possibility of a strong storm tonight. Cells are gradually developing along the IA/MO border moving northeast towards Wisconsin. It's not a total slam dunk, conditions are right on the edge but I felt it was the right thing to do. I will let you know how things go.

HEAVY RAIN - models generally agree bringing 1-2" of rain to Wisconsin Wednesday...ending Thursday with higher amounts possible. 1-2" with locally 2"+. 1-2" is a large amount but not a huge deal. If EC is correct with 2-3" La Crosse to the SW then may need to make a bigger deal. Still not a huge fan of the EC just yet.

WEDS PM STORMS - As for thunderstorm potential, only expecting an embedded t-storm or rumble of thunder threat in Wisconsin. The 850mb warm front will nose into southern WI. Weak elevated instability around 500 j/kg along and south of it. Probably not enough juice for severe. Freezing level around 700mb (southern WI). Not too concerned right now. Best chance for strong/severe will be in Illinois near the surface warm front on Wednesday afternoon.

HEAVY SNOW - 6-10" from Superior to Bayfield in far northwest Wisconsin.
