SAT 12:00 PM - UPDATE SNOWFALL FORECAST(SEE BELOW)
WISCONSIN - A major will target Wisconsin this weekend with heavy snow, rain, wintry precipitation, and strong wind gusts. This storm will take an unusual track; initially moving out of the southwest but turning southeast tracking from the Nebraska/South Dakota border east into southern Wisconsin. This creates an inverted snowband bending southeast into northern Wisconsin/Upper Michigan. The models this morning where in slight disagreement on the details (of course after a few runs with agreement).
This will be a long duration event beginning overnight Friday, lasting well into Sunday (perhaps will breaks or lulls for some in there). FRI PM the storm begins with snow changing to rain or wintry mix Saturday AM. Saturday will be a wintry mix day with rain showers south. It may keep snowing in the far far northwest including Ashland, WI. On Sunday a changeover back to snow for most, which will be heavy snow across portions of northern Wisconsin and upper Michigan. The storm may not completely exit eastern Wisconsin until 9 PM on Sunday(done by the late afternoon for most).
I decided to increase the range to a 10-15" for locations such as Rhinelander, Lakewood, and Iron Mountain. I also increased snow totals into central Wisconsin, places such as Eau Claire Wisconsin Rapids and Green Bay/Fox Valley so big boosts. This is storm total and may include snow that has already fallen. This was a pretty large jump from the previous forecast which is due to a conservative stance yesterday + generally increased model snowfall predictions.
RAIN & WIND GUSTS
Rainfall amounts approaching 1.0" are possible in central & southern Wisconsin. Some of that could fall as snow. Wind gusts Saturday into Sunday will reach the 30-40MPH range. The strongest gusts near the lakeshores; 40-50 MPH Duluth over to Ashland and Door county. Not a good day for sailing where gusts on the lakes will be much higher.
NEXT UPDATE - Going to try my best to find time on Saturday for an update.
