1:30PM MON - A strong low pressure system will move into the Great Lakes tonight peaking Tuesday across Wisconsin. The storm will start tonight around 6 PM along the WI/IL border, spreading north across the state by early Tuesday morning. The heaviest accumulation will occur Tuesday morning with a big impact on the morning commute. During the afternoon snow intensity may decrease but accumulation will continue. The storm will end as light snow or flurries by midnight Tuesday.
HEAVY SNOW ON TONIGHT/TUESDAY
Significant snow accumulations of 8-12"+ are expected with the heaviest amounts in central Wisconsin where up to 15" could fall! Lesser amounts in the far northwest and far south. Sleet or freezing drizzle could mix in across the south. Lake enhancement will increase snow totals along the Lake Michigan shoreline between Milwaukee and Manitowoc.
BLOWING & DRIFTING
Easterly wind gusts of 20-30 MPH Tuesday could lead to blowing and drifting. There may be temporary weakening of wind as it turns westerly Tuesday afternoon. Tuesday night westerly winds increase gusting to 30-40 MPH over Wisconsin which will cause more blowing and drifting. Wind finally dies down during the day on Wednesday.
WARNINGS & WARNINGS
1996 Jan 27 - This analog was similar. A little stronger and produced 8-18" of snow over Wisconsin.
ABOUT OUR MAPS
We operate independently. Unless otherwise stated; our snow maps are created by hand daily by our team. These predictions are based 100% on our personal interpretation of hundreds of model forecast simulations and gut feeling. We use snowfall ranges because snowfall amounts will always vary from one city to the next beyond our ability to forecast this far out. I attempt to smooth out the changes and variability to give you the cleanest and most accurate prediction for the entire region.
